Please expand on your topic area. What do you mean by Campus Greenspace? How do you propose to research this topic? What is the field activity that your team is planning?

Our topic concerns the lack of greenspace on east campus. West campus has tons of open area/field to play sports/relax on, while east does not have the same amount of open area. Our field activity will involve exploring how people who live on east spend their time and if greenspace is needed on east to provide more activities on east. If there is more greenspace on east, people will not have to travel to west as often to participate in field activities, therefore cutting down traffic to west.

This is an interesting issue, but the topic that you are suggesting is a solution area, not a topic area. Lets think about how we can re-frame your topic so that it is focused around a problem, rather then a solution. Start by defining a global theme that you are interested in, I can see the global theme for this topic applying to a lack of natural resources, in this case being land and natural environment. Thus, when you are researching your topic I would look at areas that are covered with man-made structures and thus lack a natural environment, possibly start with highly urban areas.

Once you have your global theme defined, then narrow the focus by choosing an activity area that you can observe and physically experience. For this topic, I think your group had a good focus, to research the college campus, and you have the abilities to observe the differences that occur between west campus and east campus. But, don’t narrow the focus of the topic to the solution of increasing green-space on east campus, through your research identify the problems and then begin brainstorming solutions from there. This will lead you to find insights that could lead to a broader range of concepts.

Please redefine your topic based on some of my suggestions and post a comment defining your new topic area.

Would it be better to say that our topic involves the lack of natural greenspace? In order to delve further into this problem, we will explore the abundance of man-made structures and see where/if natural space is necessary.

Yes I think that is a good redefinition. With this project your team could research how a lack of natural space affects people, what are the negative affects, and possible positive affects, if there are any. Identifying these type of issues and others can lead to potential opportunity areas for innovation. I think this can be a very interesting project.

I will make a new category label for this project: Greenspace, Please use this category label every time your team uploads a post for this project. Also feel free to change this label if you would prefer to give this project a different title.
